About iptsi Rocks
iptsi Rocks is a turning shooter. Your ship stays in the middle of the field and rotates; rocks drift in from every edge at their own speed and angle. Tap to fire, and a hit breaks a rock apart. The larger ones split into two smaller rocks rather than disappearing, so clearing the field makes it busier before it makes it safer.
The control is deliberately split between the two hands of the problem: turning and firing are separate actions, and because the ship does not move, there is no escape. Everything you do is either turn to aim or turn to avoid, which means the game is about deciding which of those matters more in the next two seconds.
How to play
- Drag left and right to rotate the ship, or use the arrow keys.
- Tap or press Space to fire. There is a short delay between shots.
- Large rocks split into two smaller ones when hit; small rocks vanish.
- Touch a rock and you lose a life. Three collisions ends the run.
How it was built
The ship, rocks, bullets and the starfield are all drawn at runtime on one canvas. The rocks are irregular polygons built from a ring of jittered radii, which is why no two look alike; the ship is a triangle with a flickering exhaust. There are no image files and no audio files, so the game is one HTML file that runs offline.
Bullets are sub-stepped against the rock radius so that a fast shot cannot pass through a small rock between frames. That is a common and very visible bug in this genre, and it is worth the few extra lines to not have it.
Why it is free
iptsi builds these games in-house and owns them outright, so nothing here is licensed from anyone. They are here to be played, and to show what fits the open web: instant, offline, and clear on a small screen. There is no account, no download and no advertising on this page, and your best score is stored only in your browser.
