About iptsi Bricks

iptsi Bricks is a brick breaker with one idea that separates it from a game of luck: where the ball lands on the paddle decides where it goes. Hit it with the edge of the paddle and it leaves at a steep angle; hit it with the centre and it goes nearly straight up. That single rule turns a passive game into one where every return is a decision about what to aim at next.

It is the most immediately understandable game on this site. Everyone who has held a phone knows what to do with a paddle and a ball, and the first wall of bricks explains the objective before a single word is read.

How to play

The ball speeds up slightly with every paddle hit, and the sub-stepping in the physics means it cannot pass through a brick even at its fastest โ€” a problem that makes fast brick breakers feel broken when it is not handled.

How it was built

iptsi Bricks is one self-contained HTML file with no dependencies. The bricks, the paddle, the ball and its motion trail are drawn on a canvas at runtime, and every sound is synthesised in the browser with the Web Audio API rather than downloaded. Each row of bricks takes a colour from a fixed palette so the wall reads as a structure rather than a list of objects.

The collision routine reflects the ball on whichever axis it has penetrated least. That is a small detail with a large effect: reflecting on the wrong axis is what makes a ball appear to pass through a brick, or to bounce sideways off a flat hit.

Why it is free

All twenty games on this site are originals, built in-house and owned by iptsi rather than licensed from anyone. There is no account, no download, and no advertising on this page.
