About iptsi Rally
iptsi Rally is a paddle duel against the machine. The ball crosses the middle, you return it, and the computer returns it back. Each successful return you make is worth a point and nudges the ball faster, so a long rally becomes progressively harder to keep alive. Missing the ball costs one of your three lives.
The control has one subtlety worth knowing: where the ball lands on your paddle decides where it goes. Hitting it with the centre sends it back flat; hitting it near either end angles it sharply. That is the entire skill of the game, and it is also how you make the machine's job harder, because a steep angle gives it less time to travel.
How to play
- Drag up and down, or use the โ and โ arrow keys, to move your paddle.
- Return the ball to score. Each return speeds the ball up slightly.
- Hit with the edge of the paddle to send the ball away at a sharper angle.
- Miss the ball and you lose a life; three misses ends the run.
How it was built
The ball, paddles, particles and the dashed centre line are all drawn at runtime on one canvas, and the sounds are generated with the Web Audio API rather than loaded as files. The game is a single HTML file with no dependencies, which is what allows it to start instantly and run inside a sandboxed host such as YouTube Playables.
The opponent is deliberately imperfect. It tracks the ball with a capped speed and a small amount of lag, so it can be beaten by a sharply angled return rather than only by attrition. A machine that returns everything is not a game, it is a wall.
Why it is free
iptsi builds these titles in-house and owns them outright, so nothing here is licensed from anyone. They exist to be played, and to show what fits the open web: instant, offline-capable, and clear on a small screen. There is no account, no download and no advertising on this page, and your best score is stored only in your browser.
