About Pulse Tap

Pulse Tap is a timing game with a single rule: tap when the closing ring meets the target ring. Get it right and the score goes up and the rings move faster. Get it wrong and you lose one of your three lives. There is no complexity to learn, which is the point โ€” the entire game is whether your timing holds up as the window gets smaller.

It is the shortest of the games here to understand and the hardest to be good at. The first few rings are generous, and the difficulty curve is deliberately honest: the window narrows steadily, so your score is a fairly direct measure of how long you kept your rhythm.

How to play

Your best score is stored in the browser and nothing is transmitted. The game works with touch, mouse and keyboard, and it can be played one-handed on a phone.

How it was built

Pulse Tap is a single HTML file with no dependencies. The rings, the pulse animation and the score are drawn on a canvas at runtime, and the click you hear on a hit is synthesised in the browser with the Web Audio API โ€” which is why the game needs no audio files and no network access once it has loaded.

Because it needs no text to be understood, it localises for free. That is not an accident. A game whose mechanic is entirely visual can be distributed into any market without translation work, which is one of the reasons this kind of title is useful in a catalogue that ships to many countries.

Why it is free

All twenty games on this site are originals, built in-house and owned by iptsi rather than licensed from anyone. They are here to be played, and to demonstrate the kind of title that works well in a browser on a phone: light, instant, and understandable in three seconds. No account, no download, and no advertising on this page.
